It took me a little while, because I was elated by the find. It seemed overwhelmingly positive: classic ‘80s Chevy, fine but not perfect condition, easy to photograph, something many CC readers could identify (if not identify with)… But I had not yet noticed one crucial feature. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the distinctive outline of an El Camino in the distance and thought: pay dirt. 18 months before selling it to me.Details are everything. In August of 2005, with approximately 108,000 miles, the car was given to my brother, who drove it down to Santa Barbara and parked it at my house for approx. All of the damaged parts were replaced and we have kept all of the paperwork associated with those repairs and the insurance claim. In 1997 the vehicle was hit while parked on the street, damaging the hood and left front quarterpanel along with the right front axle which was broken as the vehicle was pushed up onto the curb. All of the cylinders registered between 167 and 173. When the spark plugs were replaced, we ran a compression test. Mechanically the car runs beautifully and it has always started right up. The owner's manual looks as though someone spilled transmission fluid on it. My father kept the vehicle garaged and saved all of his service records and repair receipts for nearly 20 years. I have unbolted the bedliner to verify that there is no body rust on the entire vehicle. There has been a bedliner in the truck for it's entire life, so the bed is in great shape. The molding is all there but it is dinged a bit by the right rear wheel well. Top of the dashboard has a couple of cracks gunning from front to back. New lower rubber molding was installed on the driver and passenger doors and there was one small ding with bondo on the right rear corner, other than that the body was completely straight. All molding and insignias were removed but we left the insignias off when finished. New paint Job in January 2015 - original stock color - Dupont Cromax Light Walnut. A newer Sony AM/FM/CD stereo sounds awesome. The Factory gauges are complete with factory Tach. This El is also loaded with options, including cold A/C, power windows and locks, a tilt steering column, and cruise control. Factory door panels, and matching gray carpets. The interior is clean, sporting bucket seats and center console that are in excellent shape. There are also bright chrome bumpers, a stock grille, and body-colored side mirrors borrowed from an SS. The two-tone black over silver finish makes it look slick, The bed doesn't look like it ever had to work for a living, and was refinished with the rest of the car and is now protected by a spray-in bedliner. Paint and body are straight and definitely will be impressed by the quality of the paint. This is the One! A beautiful, 1985 Chevrolet El Camino that has been well taken care of with no expense spared.
